Aim | Statement of what the researcher intends to find out |
Hypothesis | A precise and testable statement about the assumed relationship about variables. Operationalisation is a key part of making a statement testable |
Confounding Variable | Any variable which varies systematically with the independent variable that might potentially affect the dependent variable |
Independent Variable | An event that is directly manipulated by an experimenter to test its effects on another variable |
Dependent Variable | The variable that is measured by the experimenter |
Operationalise | Ensuring that variables are in a form that can be exactly tested |
Standardised Procedures | A set of procedures that are the same for all participants in order to be able to repeat the study |
Alternative Hypothesis | Any hypothesis except the null |
Directional Hypothesis | A hypothesis which states the predicted difference between two conditions or two groups of participants |
Non-directional Hypothesis | A hypothesis that simply predicts that there is a difference between two conditions or two groups of participants, without stating the direction of the difference |
Null Hypothesis | The assumption of no difference/ relationship between variables being studied |
Co- Variable | Variables in a correlation, they must be continuous and related |
