Question Answer
WEATHER The day to day state of the atmosphere in a region. It describes the characteristics of the atmosphere with regard to wind, temperature, cloud cover, precipitation, pressure, humidity etc.
CLIMATE The average state weather in a region. It describes the weather conditions over a long period of time-usually at least 30 years.
CLIMATE CHANGE Any long-term significant change in the average weather patterns of an area.
GLOBAL WARMING An increase in the average temperature of the Earth's atmosphere. Many believe that global warming has been caused by human activities.
GREENHOUSE EFFECT The trapping of energy by carbon dioxide and other gases which prevent some of the Earth's surface heat from escaping into space.
FOSSIL FUELS Fuels from the remains of plants or animals eg. coal and oil
RENEWABLE RESOURCES Resources which can be used over and over again eg. wind; sun; waves
NON-RENEWABLE RESOURCES Resources which can only be used once eg. coal, oil
