| Question | Answer |
| TRI means | Technical Rescue Incident (special rescue involving vehicles, machinery, water/ice, rope techniques, trench or excavation collapse, confined spaces, structural collapse, wilderness search and rescue, or HAZMAT). |
| Awareness Level | An introduction, emphasized on awareness & recognition, calling for assistance. No rescue skills. |
| Operations level | Geared towards working in the 'warm' zone. Assistance of those conducting rescue. |
| Technician level | Allows you to be directly involved in all aspects of the rescue operation itself. |
| Hot Zone | The area for entry and rescue teams only. Immediately surrounds the dangers of the site. |
| Warm Zone | For properly trained and equipped personnel only. Where personnel and equipment decon and hot zone support takes place. |
| Cold Zone | Area for staging vehicles and equipment. Contains the command post. Public and media are NOT to be in this zone. |
| Lockout and Tagout Systems | Intended to ensure that the electricity has been shut off. |
| Packaging | The process of preparing the victim for movement as a unit. |
| Supplied Air Respirator | A confined space tool similar to SCBA. A mask connected via long hoseline back to an air supply located outside the confined space. |

| High-angle Operations | When the slope of the ground is greater than 45 degrees. |
| Shoring | A structure system that supports the sides of an excavation designed to prevent cave-ins. |
