As pop music is aimed
at the younger
generation, our primary
audience would be
aimed at males and
females from the ages
of 11-25, even though
this is a large age gap it
is necessary considering
pop music applies to a
vast range of people.
Our secondary audience would consist
of those outside the age gap (younger or
older), either male or female and this
would occur when those people listen
to different types of media platforms
such as radio stations. This occurs in
many different circumstances, however
these types of people would not
particularly like pop music and that
genre be their favourite, they may just
like certain songs.
Gender
Girls primarily would be the ones who
would listen to pop music videos and
upon watching pop music videos it is
evident to see that these are aimed
generally more to girls, this is due to
the fact more females tend to relate
to pop music song lyrics meaning
that they can find an attachment to a
song as it may determined a females
mood more so than a males. Girls
also look up to female pop singers as
they get inspiration from the way
they look and other factors which
make up their personalities.
Our secondary audience would be males
as they are not generally as interested in
pop music videos as females are meaning
they are less likely to watch them.
However, the Male Gaze Theory is more
apparent in pop music videos as these
videos are more up to date and want to be
popular therefore resulting in some of the
music videos sexualising women (for
example) as sex sells. This could attract
more male viewers even though the
number will still be lower than female
viewers.
Occupation (Social Grouping)
Generally, teenagers will be at school/ college/
sixth form due to the age of our target
audience meaning that this age of people may
have a Saturday job to give them extra money
to go to places such as bands/ artists concerts
if they are a fan of music; however they may
not even have a job. Depending on their
parents occupation would determine their
class and status.
Other Media Interests
Primary audiences will use
apps such as Instagram,
Twitter, Snapchat, watch new
and up to date films. Other
music and artists they will like
are people such as Rihanna,
Drake, Dua Lipa, Arianna
Grande, Little Mix and many
more.
Secondary and older audiences will
not use the same amount of apps as
the younger generation therefore
they use apps such as Facebook as
this is a more open platform of
media. These people may not watch
as many up to date films and
favouritise old films.
