1.2 Memory
  1. RAM
    1. Random Access Memory
      1. Stores programs and data in use
        1. volatile
          1. After RAM is full, everything goes to virtual memory
          2. ROM
            1. Non volative. When the computer is turned the data isn't deleted and the ROM stays on for the boot sequence
              1. Boot sequence
                1. POST
                  1. 1) BIOS performs check
                    1. Power On Self-Test
                      1. 2) Check peripheral devices
                        1. 3) When check is complete it opens the operating system
                        2. 1) ROM opens the boot sequence
                          1. 2) The boot sequence sends a signal to the hard disk and starts the operating system
                            1. 3) It turns on your computer
                        3. Virtual Memory
                          1. The RAM supports the computer to do temporary tasks, but the virtual memory supports the RAM. when its full things are sent to the virtual memory
                            1. Not as fast as RAM
                              1. Volatile
                              2. Flash Memory
                                1. Has no moving parts (solid state media)
                                  1. Memory stick, SSD, SD card
                                    1. Portable - Can take it everywhere
                                      1. Compatible
                                        1. Cheap
                                          1. Expensive when more storage is needed
                                            1. Break easily
