Anaerobic respiration is used for short quick powerful movement
glucose --> lactic acid or C6H12O6 --> 2C3H6O3
Takes place in the cytoplasm not the mitochondria
OXYGEN DEBT
Lactic acid causes cramp
Once oxygen can be supplied, lactic acid is then broken
down fully in the liver forming carbon dioxide and water
The amount of oxygen need to do this is known as your OXYGEN DEBT
This is why you keep breathing deeply after exercise.
AEROBIC
aerobic respiration uses OXYGEN
Glucose + Oxygen --> Carbon dioxide + Water or C6H12O6 + 6O2 --> 6CO2 + 6H2O
Uses of energy in respiration: 1. Muscle contractions. 2. Active
transport. 3. Protein synthesis. 4. control of body temperature
CELL RESPIRATION
Respiration is NOT BREATHING.
Respiration IS the release of energy in cells
Energy comes in many different forms
Our energy comes from food which contains chemical energy
The energy is converted (transduced) into other forms during respiration
takes place in the mitochondria
EFFECTS OF EXERCISE
when you exercise, your heart has to beat faster so that
more blood can flow around and the body and reach your
cells to give them the energy and oxygen needed to
complete a certain activity
FERMENTATION
FERMENTATION IN YEAST
Anaerobic respiration uses NO OXYGEN
This is why we use yeast to make bread rise or alcoholic
drinks
