Chemistry
  1. Basics
    1. Atom- is the simplest part of an element eg. O (oxygen)
      1. Compound- 2 or more atoms joined together eg.NaCl
        1. Molecule- usually when two of the same atoms are joined and are usually gases eg. CO2
          1. Ion- an atom with a charge eg. Na+
          2. Structure of an atom
            1. Number of electrons is equal to the number of protons
              1. So they have no overall charge
            2. Limestone
              1. The main compound found in limestone is calcium carbonate
                1. CaCO3= calcium carbonate
                  1. Limestone cycle
                    1. Calcium Carbonate (Limestone) CaCO3
                      1. Heat
                        1. Calcium Oxide (Lime/ quick lime) CaCO
                          1. Add a little water
                            1. Calcium Hydroxide ( Slaked lime.) Ca(OH)2
                              1. Add more water and filter
                                1. Calcium hydroxide solution ( Limewater ) CaCOH2 (H2O)
                                  1. Add CO2
                    2. Sedimentary rock
                      1. Can be quarried to be used as building materials
                        1. Advantages: Creates jobs, when quarried it is then landscaped so fits in with natural scenery and is a useful material.
                          1. Disadvantages: Traffic congestion, greenhouse gases, explosives cause pollution and destroy habitats.
                          2. Glass making- glass is made by mixing limestone with sand and soda.
                          3. Extracting metals
                            1. Reactivity series:
                              1. Potassium
