  1. Sound = (mechanical) vibrations
    1. Humans hear sound between 20Hz - 20,000 Hz
      1. Any sound above 20,000 Hz = ULTRASOUND
      2. USES
        1. Pre-natal scanning
          1. Checking on baby development
            1. Checking for severe disabilities
            2. Cleaning delicate machines
              1. The liquid particles vibrate at high frequencies which clean the dirt
              2. Breaking down kidney stones into smaller pieces
              3. When ultrasounds meet a boundary, they are partially reflected
                1. (pre-natal scanning) ultrasound waves reflect off baby tissue in womb and back into transducer, producing an image
                  1. Time taken for reflected wave to reach transducer tells us how far away boundary is
                    1. The results are processed to produce an image
