Threat
1. A threat is an incident or an action which is unintended or deliberate that results in disruption, downtime or data loss
2. Internal threat
  1. Caused by an incident inside an organisation
3. External threat
  1. Caused by an incident outside an organisation
Hacker
1. A person who looks to seek out and exploit these vulnerabilities
2. black hat: they try to inflict damage by compromising security systems
  1. Attack
    1. An attack is a deliberate actin targeting an organisations digital system or data
3. Grey Hat: they do it for fun with no intent of causing any harm
4. White Hat: working with the organisation to strengthen the security system
Unauthorised Access
1. This refers to someone gaining entry without permission to an organisation’s system, software or data. This achieved by exploiting a security vulnerability
Why are systems attacked?
1. Fun/Challenge
  1. Sense of achievement
  2. Can be fun or a achallenge
  3. Friends may give you more respect
2. Financial gain
  1. Ransoms can be made to prevent attacks from happening
  2. Ransomware can be used to encrypt a computer until you pay
  3. A payment is given to carry out an attack on a organization
3. Disruption
  1. Attacks such as Denial-of-Service stop websites working
  2. Viruses can slow down computers and delete files
