Resource summary
How do referendums undermine elected institutions?
Only Parliament can give consent for a referendum to be held
Parliament decides upon the question
Therefore Parliament is in control
We elect our MP's to represent the people
They are suppossed to make decisions on our behalf, that is their job.
The fact that a referendum gives the people a choice undermines the position of MP's
BUT it is the MP's in Parliament who make the decision to hold a referendum
