  1. 1.0 Background
    1. 2.0 Aim of the MLE

      Annotations:

      •    •To design an interactive web site that will be used to teach the concept of Data Representation through Simulation.
      1. 2.1 objectives of the MLE

        Annotations:

        •   •         Be relevant to the topic  •         Be Interactive , user-friendly  •         Be Accessible 24/7  •         Provide online resources to students  •         Offer evaluation and collaborative activities to students.
      2. learning outcomes of the lesson

        Annotations:

        •     Define the terms bits, bytes, denary, binary and registers   Convert denary numbers to and from binary    Use binary numbers in 8-bit registers  Apply the use of 8-bit registers in real life situations.
        •    Define the term Hexadecimal and base 16.   Convert positive Hexadecimal numbers to and from denary.   Identify and list the use of Hexadecimal.    Explain the relationship between binary, hexadecimal and denary.
        1. Analysing the learners

          Annotations:

          •    O-level students and first year A-level students   Their group age is 15 years old and above   They are exclusively male students.   They are low ability students.  No prior knowledge is needed to get into the lesson
          1. Type of knowledge
            1. informative

              Annotations:

              •    A bit is either a 0 or a 1. Reference can be made to a switch when it is on  (1) and off (0) Our system of representing number is denary (0-9). A glossary of terms can create.
              1. conceptual

                Annotations:

                •    Understanding why there is a need to convert denary into binary. Understand how machine interprets our information Understand the relationship between denary and binary.
                1. procedural

                  Annotations:

                  • Procedures on how to convert denary to binary and its use in registers. Spreadsheet and PowerPoint is used to simulate the conversion
                2. Instructional strategies

                        Annotations:

                        • Use of real life situations which can be obtained from past exam papers
                        1. Problem Based Learning

                          Annotations:

                          • Interaction with simulated case studies. Interactive website will be used where students can drag and drop bits from one place to another. Simulated real life situation will used the use of Spreadsheet and presentation software.
                          1. Discovery learning

                            Annotations:

                            • Use of the YouTube for students to discover meaningful real life situation with binary.
                          2. Utilisation of Media and Materials

                            Annotations:

                            •    •         Instructors should be well versed with technologies to be used. If needs be provide for training. •         Instructors should practice all the activities beforehand among themselves. •         Any ambiguities/ or confusion should be reported immediately. •         Make sure all equipments are working properly and stored in appropriate environment •         Prepare and organise the materials in the order to be taught. •         Use folders to keep files organized. •         Prepare students to use new system. Use Demos •         Give them prior instructions. •         Use of learning strategies. •         Engage students in the project by providing a student centred environment
                            1. Learning Strategy

                              Annotations:

                              •    The learning strategy that we will be using is the Socio-Constructivist approach. The key aspects of this strategy and its implementation are listed below.   ü  Knowledge is constructed by learners through an active mental process of development. This means that students are invited to get engaged in their learning. An interactive environment where the students interact with the interactive website, interactive whiteboard and Tablet PC. They will also learn through simulation.     Students learn better thorough social interactions.  This can be done through the use of forums, group work and teacher’s assistance.     The zone of proximal development, often abbreviated as ZPD, is the difference between what a learner can do without help and what he or she can do with help.
                            2. Evaluating Students
                              1. Summative
