Neutrophil Maturation
  1. Myeloblast

    Annotations:

    • -makes up 3% of circulating nucleated cells in BM -15-20 um -NC ratio 5-7:1 -nucleus has fine chromatin, 2-5 nucleoli and is round to oval -cytoplasm is basophilic and agranular
    1. Promyelocyte

      Annotations:

      • -larger than myeloblasts, 12-24 um -2% nucleated cells in BM -NC ratio 3-5:1 -fine chromatin, slight clumping 1-3 nucleoli -blue cytoplasm, primary azurophilic granules -Granules filled w myeloperoxidase, has affinity for azure dye in wright stain
      1. Myelocyte

        Annotations:

        • -10% of circulating cells in BM -NC ratio 1-2:1 round to oval cell -nuclues oval to slightly indented/flattenned, chromatin clumping and no nucleoli visible -primary and 2ndary specific neutrophilic granules -LAST STAGE CAPABLE OF MITOSIS
        1. Metamyelocyte

          Annotations:

          • -nucleus begins to indent, chromatin more clumped -10 to 15 um -IMPORTANCE OF STAGE: makes super O2 imp in killing microbes!
          • STAB OR BAND FORM -nucleus indents forming U shape parralel on both sides -2/3 of granules are 2ndry -5-10% in norm PB
          1. Segmented Neutrophil

            Annotations:

            • -2-4 lobes connected by thin fillament
