How does your product engage with audiences and
how would it be distributed as a real media text?
A film distributer is responsible for the marketing and
distribution of the final product and is crucial for financing
the film.
Some key elements of
product distribution
include setting release
dates and the method
through which it will be
distributed and made
available to the public.
The film institute of my choice is The Walt Disney Company
The Walt Disney company is a
multinational mass media conglomerate
and is one of the six largest media
conglomerates.
With its countless subsidiaries, The
Walt Disney company is capable of
producing, marketing and distributing
it's own products
Although Disney is mainly known for its family ortiented
flagship content, the conglomerate has acquired
multiple corporate divisions in order to produce and
market more mature content
These
include
Marvel
Studios,
Lucasfilms,
20th Century
Fox and
more
Most of the highest grossing films by Disney were produced by their
subsidiaries; ones producing content not likely made for children including
genres such as action, thriller and sci-fiction.
The Thriller Genre
The director i took
inspiration from is
David Fincher and
referenced his
movies Zodiac and
Panic Room both
narrative and
directional wise.
David Fincher's Gone Girl, which also heavily
inspired my concept, was distributed by 20th
Century Fox, a subsidiary under the Walt Disney
Company. The same way, my film would also be
distributed under one of Disney's many corporate
divisions which target a mature audience the same
as I did here.
Audience Engagement
Firstly, I gauged my audience's
attention by posting a "coming soon"
poster. This envokes my audience's
interest and is the easiest form of
media that can be accessed to
market a product
The low budget nature of the film and the
narrative revolving around the main character
was the reason why the poster was made to look
like a tiny glimpse into the actual sequence and
the main character's life.
Then, I posted a 30 seconds long teaaer
of the film on networking sites such as
Instagram and Youtube. The brief
promotion of the product through
posters is followed up by a teaser to
finally let the audience into the essence
of the film and makes them anticipate
the final product.
Finally, a final poster linked
the viewers who clicked on
it to the opening sequence
on Youtube and Instagram.
This form of digital
distribution is common for
major media
conglomerates and gives
the audience easy access
to the product.
Furthermore, it's an easy
method to record all
engagements.
Feedback on the final film
The usage of posters and a teaser was the easiest way
to make my audience anticipate the final product and
look forward to it's release, leading to an equal and
good amount of interactions on both the platforms it
was released on.
