  • Christianity becomes the 'new glue' of holding together society in the empire. The councils were formed to defend dodgy version of christanity e.g no concept of trinity or Jesus as man and God.

    Annotations:

    • Resolve the nature of Christ, date of Easter and the bapstim of heretics 250-300 bishops attended in Nicaea - Free travel for them all! Athanasius was there as a deacon writing stuff downSet up in Roman style ( senate) they probably therefore inherited some of the culture of Roman doing stuff. 
    • Wrote out the Nicene Creed combatting everything that was needed
