TECHNIQUES AND APPLICATIONS FOR
THE DIAGNOSIS OF DISEASES OF THE
MAMMARY GLAND.
Digital breast tomosynthesis
It provides better diagnostic accuracy compared to
mammography, creates a three-dimensional image, compression
is performed to improve the image and reduce the level of
radiation, high resolution data is acquired, greater cancer
detection is related.
Xeromammography
Photoelectric method that records an x-ray image
on a metal plate, uses low-energy photon beams,
prolonged exposure time and dry chemical
developers, is used as a complement to
mammography.
Galactography
Diagnostic procedure used to evaluate the milk
ducts of the breast, it is carried out through x-rays,
a radiopaque substance is used that is injected
through the milk ducts, evaluates the nipple
discharge, it should not be performed if the nipple
has discharge with pus.
Ultrasound
It is performed with ultrasound waves,
they do not have ionizing radiation, it
can be used for diagnosis and
treatment, it allows to observe the
lactiferous ducts, dilatations or
masses.
Breast resonance
Resonance with contrast has achieved the
early detection of breast cancer, it is also
used to verify the status of breast implants,
comparison of breasts when only one has
been affected.
Scintigraphy
Breast imaging test that can detect cancer
cells, is used in women with breast implants,
dense breast tissue, postoperative scar tissue,
is used when mammography or ultrasound is
not reliable, a radioactive substance is injected
that is taken up by the cells cancerous and
pictures are taken with a gamma camera.
Mammography
Technique used for the diagnosis and early detection of
breast cancer with the use of x-rays.
