  1. Flat Area of ground
    1. Antrim Plateau covers large part of Antrim that was cause by volcanic activity - 65 years ago.
    2. Eurasian and American plates seperated.
      1. Huge fissures on the earths crust
        1. Magma emerged through earths crust.
      2. Lava was basic lava that spread out quickly to cover the area it covered.
        1. Several different lava flows -- some up to 40 meteres thick.
          1. Layer upon layer of basalt cooled and hardened on top of eachother.
            1. These then became Lava Plateaus
        2. Eurasian and American plates began to drift apart - new crust was formed
          1. Atlantic ocean opened up
          2. The Giants Causeway
            1. One of the most distinctive parts of the plateau
              1. Famous for its hexagonal shapes.
