Resource summary
states of matter
solids
solids are hard
they have a fixed shaped
and are not compressible
because the particles are packed
closely together and cannot move
h20 ice= <0 degrees
liquids
have no fixed shape & are slightly compressible because
the particles are free to move compared to solid particles
h20 water= 0-100 degrees
gas
gas is very compressible &
takes the shape of whatever
container there're in therefore
they can move around more freely
h20 water vapor(steam)
>100 degrees
the 4 processes in water are
condensing
evaporation
freezing
melting
the difference between particles
is temperature
temperature is the measure of how hot or cold somthing
is and it is determined by the presence of heat energy
as you apply heat temperature increases
cold-low heat energy
hot- high heat energy
ice to water is melting
water to ice is freezing
water to water vapour is boiling
water vapor to water is condensation
