Miss Porter's Scool

1. Moved to schoolhouse in 1847

   Annotations:

   • Up until 1847, Miss Porter educated her girls in the historic "stone store" located on Main Street in Farmington. She rented out an upstairs room and taught them there until the building funded by the Farmington Female Seminary Association was completed.

• The curriculum implemented at Miss Porter's School was challenging and in-depth. Her students got much more out of their time at school than did the children of Farmington public schools at the time.
