        1. Assessment- Class generated criteria-students will be marked.
    2. Lesson #4 & #5 The Importance of the Potlatch
      1. Reading secret of the dance- discussion-video of elder talking about Potlatch-Watch video of Alert Bay-Cause and Consequnce-Add ot back of poster
        1. B6 select and use various strategies during reading and viewing to construct, monitor, and confirm meaning, including summarizing and synthesizing. Differentiate between short-and long term causes, and intended and unintended consequences, of events, decisions, and developments (cause and consequence)
          1. Will use class generated criteria to mark poster
      2. Lesson #6- People of the Cedar
        1. Talk about ties to the land- Read People of the Cedar- Talk about importance of Cedar-everything it supplies- Students will write short reflection
          1. Students will be able to assess the relationship between cultures and their environments. E1
            1. Formative assessment- I will collect the reflections and provide written feedback
        2. Lesson #7- Living in balance with the Sea
          1. Students will be reading the chapter about gathering, preserving and collecting- Student will provide a chapter summary about what they have read. We will also read the article-Salmon Ceremony and have a discussion about this.
            1. Students will be able to assess the relationship between cultures and their environments. E1
              1. Assessment- I will be collecting and providing formative assessment on the students chapter summary.
          2. Lesson #8 The Indian Act, Royal Proclamation, Duncan Campbell Scott
            1. Students will be doing a guided web search- I will provide students with 6 different approved websites and students needs to answer a set of questions using the provided websites.-Afterwards we will have a discussion about what we found.
              1. Students will be able to- Differentiate between short-and long term causes, and intended and unintended consequences, of events, decisions, and developments ( cause and consequence)
                1. Assessment- I will be collecting and marking students web search.
            2. Lesson #9- Residential School
              1. Together we will be looking at a day in the life of a residential school student, talking about conditions, life, discipline. We will also be watching Shi shi etko video- 6 minutes- We will be reading Not my Girl and having a class discussion. We will be in groups making tableux's to represent parts of the book. We will be talking about cause and consequence.
                1. B6 select and use various strategies during reading and viewing to construct, monitor, and confirm meaning,
                  1. Assessment -I will be conducting formative assessment and recording notes on students participation
              2. Lesson #10 - Diseases and Trading
                1. Together we will be reading text about diseases and trading and adding notes to the back of our poster. We will be talking about Making Ethical Judgement too.
                  1. Make ethical judgments about events, decisions, and actions that considers the conditions of a particular time and place, and assess appropriate ways to respond ( ethical judgment)
                    1. I will be using the class generated criteria to mark poster.
                2. Celebration of Learning: Blanket Exercise
                  1. Culminating Task: Students will write a final writing response that talks about the consequence of contact that lead to trade and settlement.
                    1. I will be providing a rubric before they start this assignment, I will be marking their response based on the rubric.
