  1. Breast Milk

    Annotations:

    • Optimal for child development and health. Packaged nutrients - optimal formula. Breats development is driven by the hormones of pregnancy: Estrogen, Progesterone, and Prolactin(Later periods)  Lactation demands a higher nutrient demand within maternal stores and diet.
    1. Colostrum

      Annotations:

      • Colostrum is the first milk. Produced in late pregnancy, prior to giving birth. Colostrum contains Ant-bodies to protect the new born against disease. It is lower in FAT, and higher in PROTEIN. It is a mild laxative encouraging first stool (Meconium) This clears excess bilirubin Essential Antibodies, IgM, IgA, major components of immune system,

        • Composition has been found to be relatively constant with the exception to the water soluble vitamins, C, B12, B6, Thiamin and Riboflavin
        1. Long term health benefits

          1. DHA

            Annotations:

            • Essential fatty acid principal fatty acid for development and highest in brain composition Concentration is dependent upon maternal diet WHO reccommends baby breast fed first 6 months
          2. Specific Nutrients/Vitamins

            • Nutrient intake should increase, specifically from 20 weeks
            1. Folate

              Annotations:

              • Neural tube defects. Supplementation is required 28 days before conception, has to be pre-conceptional.
