Faceting
1. Several signs to express one idea; used to narrow down concept/more specific image/coney a single idea
  1. Detail info -> fewer lexical items in English, still have clear picture
    1. change of tone?
  2. sometimes less English words required
    1. interpreting every word not necessary, can cause unnatural interpretation w/o pauses
      1. Does hearing consumer have time to digest information? To understand message?

Introducing Each New Speaker
1. use direct address, must introduce each new speaker
  1. Use body shift to indicate different person
  2. English interpretation: need to identify who is speaking, but no literal interpretation
    1. Should use indirect address in most cases
Choosing a Direct or Indirect Interpretation
1. Is gender known?
  1. No? then no indirect
    1. Make it awkward
    2. Not capture meaning
      1. Lose impact
2. What type of discourse speaker is using? Who is the audience? What the speaker's purpose is?
  1. successful: audience can differentiate between the speaker's personal comments & comments of other people
  2. indirect address is preferred method
