YouTube was founded in February 2005, however was bought by Google in November 2006 therefore it now operates as a subsidiary to Google
however it still fits it purpose in featuring numerous amounts of different videos, ready to view by the audience. Although YouTube is dedicated
to providing an audience with a diverse set of videos, YouTube's most populated videos are in fact music videos. Therefore YouTube has a whole
section dedicated to a wide range of artists channels and their music videos, allowing them to be easily accessible by the audience.
Television Channels
On the television there is a range of different channels, solely dedicated to showing music
videos. These include numerous genres of which target individual target groups.
Music Television (MTV) is owned by Viacom Media Networks and launched in August 1981. The channels
primary demographic was young adults but today it is primarily towards teenagers. They now have a
various few other channels embedded within the MTV network. Some include MTV Rocks, MTV Classics,
and MTV Dance. Although MTV Hits and MTV Music are two of their most populated channels.
The Box is a television channel viewed only in the United Kingdom and Ireland. The
channel is one of many within The Box Plus network. The channel mainly broadcasts
music videos, although it features other music-related programming from 4Music also.
4Music is a music and entertainment channel in the United Kingdom.
The channel launched in August 2008, replacing The Hits. More so like
The Box is broadcasts numerous mainstream music videos.
VEVO
Vevo launched in December 2009. It is a video hosting service owned and
operated by a joint venture of Universal Music Group (UMG), Google, Sony
Music Entertainment (SME) and Abu Dhabi Media. Vevo is the world's leading
all-premium music and entertainment platform. It has a library of thousands
exclusively original HD music videos that are adaptable to any screen,
through its website or apps - developed for iOS, Andriod and Windows.
Additionally VEVO syndicates their catalogue to dozens of sites,
one being YouTube. This essentially gives the viewer an option
between where they view their music video, to their preference.
Vimeo
Vimeo is a video-sharing website in which users can upload, share and view videos. Vimeo was founded in
November 2004 and was the first video-sharing website to support HD videos. The community of Vimeo include
the upcoming indie filmamkers and their fans, therefore it creates a platform for the underdogs of music.
