Pythagoras
Theorem
ONLY WORKS IN RIGHT ANGLED TRIANGLES!
Formula
a^2 + b^2 = c^2
a and b are the shorter sides
c is the hypotenuse
The square of the hypotenuse (longest side, opposite right angle) is equal to the sums of the squares of the other two sides
Real Life Problems
A plane flies 6 km northwards, then 8km eastwards. What would be the distance going straight to the finishing place from the beginning directly?
a^2 + b^2 = c^2
36 + 64 = c²
100 = c²
√100 = 10
10km
