  1. Definition:A rare disorder in which your body's immune system attacks your nerves. Weakness and tingling in your extremities are usually the first symptoms
    1. Risk Factors: 1. Men 2.Older Adults 3.Influenza virus 4.Epstein-Barr virus 5.HIV, the virus that causes AIDS 6.Mycoplasma pneumonia 7.Surgery 8.Hodgkin's lymphoma
      1. Assessment: 1. Prickling, "pins and needles" sensations in your fingers, toes, ankles or wrists 2.Weakness in your legs that spreads to your upper body 3. Unsteady walking or inability to walk or climb stairs 4.Difficulty with eye or facial movements, including speaking, chewing or swallowing
        1. Diagnostics: 1.Spinal tap (lumbar puncture) 2.Electromyography 3.Nerve conduction studies
          1. Drugs: 1.Analgesic agents (Opioids, NSAIDs, etc.) 2.Plasma exchange (plasmapheresis). 3.Immunoglobulin therapy
            1. Nursing Diagnosis:Ineffective Airway Clearance, Impaired Physical Mobility, Altered nutrition – less than body requirements
              1. Nursing Responsibilities: Assess airway for patency, Assess respirations, Instruct to do range-of-motion (ROM) exercises. Encourage to perform exercises according to physical and occupational therapy guidelines during recovery period
