Behavioural Approach (Evaluation)

Based on the principle that reinforced behaviour will be repeated/non-reinforced behaviour will not
Used to shape behaviour
Easy to out into practice
Relatively quick results
Simple idea to understand
Some techniques such as social skills therapy may be empowering to the client
Highly structured, following a step by step process
Fails to address cause
May be seen as punishment
Some may rebel against authority/being told what to do
May not want/desire the reward
May not consider what people think/feel
Not always easy to get someone to change their mind
Could be seen as dehumanising- reducing behaviour to simply responses to things that give/ reduce pleasure
