                                                1. lower strength than other manufactured boards
                                                  1. places where it cant be seen- backs of drawers

                                                    1. thin strips of wood, glued together
                                                      1. veneers
                                                        1. each strip is glued with the grain running at a right angle to the previous one
                                                          1. appearance can be improved by covering it in high- quality hardwood venneers
                                                    2. Blockboard
                                                      1. strips of softwood sandwiched between 'plies'
                                                        1. the grain of the plies runs at right angles to the softwood strips
                                                      2. Chipboard
                                                        1. small chips of wood squeezed and glued together
                                                          1. appearance improved by hardwood veneers or a thin layer of plastic
                                                            1. cheap with rough surface
                                                              1. kitchen worktops
                                                            2. renewable materials
                                                              1. if managed sustainably, it will never run out
                                                              2. reclaimed wood
                                                                1. good quality wood can be re-used
                                                                2. wood can also be recycled
                                                                  1. e.g. for making manufacture boards
                                                                  2. or just burned as fuel, to produce energy
