A feasibility study is a preliminary investigation to determine: whether a solution to a problem is possible; if the current system may be replaced & how to go about this. It is a simple analysis of the problem to identify and justify ways in which it may be solved, using techniques such as: 1. Observation 2. Questionnaires 3. Interviews 4. Analysis of the existing documentation It is similar to the Analysis stage but happens before it, and at a much more basic level. It will also involve a cost:benefit analysis to ultimately determine if a solution would be affordable and cost-effective. The outcomes of a feasibility study will ultimately be to determine if a solution is technically feasible as well as affordable, and if it is, an estimated timescale and budget for the project will be agreed upon.
