For sentences in the Active voice, the subject performs the action. However, for sentences in the Passive voice the action is performed on the subject, that is, the subject receives the action. Here we have two easy examples to begin with Active: Da Vinci painted the Mona Lisa Passive: The Mona Lisa was painted by Da Vinci As you can see, the object on the active sentences (the Mona Lisa) performs as the subject on the passive one
