Bottle Rocket Competition Research:Water helps the rocket launch farther up in the air than air does. long stiff poles are good for aerodynamics and directing the rocket. the pole works better with a weight (plastic easter egg) at the top and small sturdy fins on the sides at top of pole on rocket. have fins at the bottom/middle of the bottle part of rocket as well as the pole's top (all fins must be secured and sturdy) weight under both noses of the rocket will help balance the air and rocket all together (bouncy balls were often used- make sure to tape down weight securely). make sure the rocket does not get too heavy. 3 wings work the best- no more no less. easy medium with balancing the weight on the nose, fins, and weights. pole should be light weight yet sturdy- must have opening at top to put stuff in. Materials/Decorations: Smooth sided soda bottle Thin PVC pipe with lid Plastic sheets for fins Possibly a parachute Cone clear tape Duct tape
