Recessed troffer luminaires are the workhorses in indoor applications and accounts for roughly 75% of the lighting service in a typical commercial building. The total installed stock of common linear fluorescent luminaires in the United States is estimated to be over 960 million luminaires. In recent years, LED technology has challenged this commercial workhorse with energy-efficiency and extended life span. Department of Energy estimates the installed base of LED troffers increased from approximately 40,000 units in 2010 to nearly 700,000 units in 2012. Manufacturers report increasing demand over the past couple years, estimating that 15+ percent of new troffer luminaires sold today employ LEDs as the light source. If LED technology can reach its projected market penetration in troffer luminaries of greater than 65% by 2030, energy savings nationally could reach over 25%. Individual projects can exceed 25% in energy savings. Energy savings is just one of the many reasons to utilize LED troffer and 2x4 troffer style lighting for commercial or residential lighting. LED troffers are environment friendly and do not use harmful materials like mercury. Infrared radiations are reduced to nothing without these harsh materials. Heat emitted from LED troffers is minimal in comparison to fluorescents creating more versatility and lowering the need for added cooling costs. LED troffers are manufactured with light weight material and have no sharp edges. Installation is quicker and safer with the LED Troffers. Thanks to remote phosphor technology, LED troffers deliver even lighting throughout. LED troffers offer several different color temperatures, as well as, dimmable features. Additionally, unit size will also play a part in the amount of illumination for the desired space. With both direct and indirect options, Forest Lighting LED troffers are a softer lighting appearance. LED troffers have a thin profile with a thickness of less than 10mm. This enables the unit to be used in recessed and tight spaces previously thought to be difficult areas of illumination. The rated average number of life span hours for the LED troffers is about 50,000 hours or 17 years at 8 hours a day. Most traditional lighting systems have a life span of approximately 3 years for the same daily usage. LED troffers give complete and uniform illumination wherever they are used. LED troffers are best suited for areas requiring bright, even lighting such as signage, countertops and shelving, to name a few. The architectural lines of LED troffers compliment the latest in interior design concepts. Many interior designers choose LED troffers for mood lighting or highlighting. Motivating factors such as environmental and long term cost savings make LED troffers the most cutting edge units in commercial spaces. Pair these qualities with optimum illumination, life of the unit and ease of installation for unquestionable reasons to make the decision to use LED troffers in both commercial and residential projects moving forward.
