Changes in Society Exacerbated by the BD Peasants could bargain for trade. The gap between peasants and lords closed. Peasants' diets improved. Peasants' contracts were shorter. Women could work and therefore marry later. English became the official language. The standards of monks and nuns declined. Churches were built to appease God. Rise of the Commons. There were more jobs available for people lower than who would normally have them. Lords could intimidate their peasants through the Statute of Labourers. Lesser lords struggled from 1348 to 1381.
