SUFFRAGETTES In the 1800s only rich men allowed to vote. So the women wanted rights to vote too so they set up campaigns for the right to vote. The early campaigners were called suffragists. Millicent Fawcett led a society called the "NUWSS" (national union of women's suffrage society). the NUWSS believed in constitutional campaigning. The actions taken by the members were: Arguing with MPs, issuing leaflets, presenting preteritions, organised meetings. Emmeline Pankhurst set up an organisation called "WSPU"
