The longitudinal SR contains a high concentrations of proteins acting as an ATP-dependent Ca pump - returning Ca from the myoplasm to the SR lumen (to help terminate contraction).
These proteins are called SERCA.
What does SERCA stand for?
( Sarco, Sarcoplasmic ) ( Endo, Endoplasmic ) ( [plasmic] Reticulum, [plasmic] Ryanodine ) ( Calcium, Concentration ) ( Activation, Activator, Adjustment, ATPase )
