The Cuban revolution of ( 1959, 1962 ) overthrew Cuba's pro American government and set up a new regime led by Fidel Castro. They wanted greater independence from the USA. They previously were allies with the ( France, US, China ). As part of the new regime, ( USSR, Khrushchev, Castro ) took over all ( American, English ) property located in Cuba. Castro began putting communists in positions of power such as his government. In turn USA banned the import of Cuban ( tobacco, sugar, coffee ) which threatened to bankrupt the Cuban economy. Cuba went to the USSR for help. USSR agreed to offer economic assistance to Cuba and promised to send military assistance.

President ❌ became the communist party leader of Czechoslovakia in ❌ and he rigidly followed Stalinist policies. This led to economic stagnation in Czechoslovakia and a student demonstration against lack of freedom and the low standard of living in 1966. Novotny was replaced by Dubcek on 5th January ❌. He wanted to get rid of the most oppressive aspects of communism, 'socialism with a face.' He introduced many reforms from ❌ 1968 such as; increasing trade with the West, giving the people a greater freedom of travel and freedom of speech. This however lead to the weakening of Soviet control of the Eastern bloc as ❌ was refusing to attend Warsaw Pact meetings. ❌ ordered a full scale invasion of Czechoslovakia. On 20th August 1968, ❌ Warsaw Pact troops and tanks invaded Czechoslovakia and there was a great deal of non-violent civil disobedience. Dubcek disappeared and reappeared on 27th August. In ❌ 1968, all reforms were reversed and Dubcek was arrested and taken to Moscow. All Czech leaders were removed and ❌ became the new leader.

During the ( Paris, Vienna, Geneva ) summit, the U2 crisis took place. ( Harry, Barry, Gary ) Powers was a ( pilot, delegate ) who was instructed to take pictures of Soviet activity and if he was caught he was supposed to drink poison to protect ( America, England, France ). However when the plane was shot, he did not take the poison and put on trial in Moscow. It was solid evidence that the USA was spying despite the claim that the U2 was carrying out ( weather, geographical ) reconnaissance.
