Generally, Abiotic features in Australia such as rainfall, temperature and land form patterns affect the distribution of vegetation and ecosystems. Abiotic factors such as high temperature and high rainfall create a suitable tropical environment for this type of ecosystem.

The abundance organisms within the ecosystem depending on the Biotic factors:

Availability/ abundance of food
number of mates
number of predators
number and variety of disease causing organisms

Ecologists usually wish to determine the size and density of a population.

(Density: A reflection of the number of organism that environment can support.)

Two main questions:

Why is a species only present in particular places?
What determines the number of individual size of the population in one particular place?
