Buzurg ibn Shahriyar (10th cent)- shipmaster from Siraf (city on Persian Gulf coast), collected/observed other customs on distand lands in colleciton called Book of the Wonders of India (fictional tall tales, but reflected the times of trade networks linking lands)

  - Big cultural influences in India: caste system, Buddhism, Hinduism, even Islam (7th cent.)
  - Other countries Influenced by Indian techqniques of statecraft, religions, innovations (economic, cultural, and commercial)
  - Indian ocean basin region moved towards economic integration
- Expansion of Empires (e.g. Mongol) had big role in increasing trade
