Although it is more effective to have less options to make a more rational decision, it is important to have a balance between a few choices and many choices. Most people’s mentality is that they’re in control as long as they make the decisions. It’s important to find a balance of providing enough options to where the end-user feels like the have enough control, while also trying to avoid over choice. It’s also important to remember that individuals vary on what strategies they use to make decisions, so it’s a good idea to give the end-user a few different ways to use a function. This makes the end-user feel like they’re free to make choices. One way may be more efficient for one user, since it will most likely vary from person to person.
