After the dissolution of the first Mexican Empire, the conservative
communist ( conservative, communist ) and liberal
fascist ( liberal, fascist ) fractions faced each other in an ongoing power struggle. These groups were mostly republican, with differing views on administration. The federalists
nationalists ( federalists, nationalists ) , backed by the Yorkist Masonic Lodge, had strong ties with the USA and wanted to give autonomy to the different regions of Mexico, organizing them by states
provinces ( states, provinces ) with their own governments and laws. The centralists
departmentalists ( centralists, departmentalists ) were republicans who believed in the need for a strong central government and only one set of laws for the whole Mexican territory. They were also supported by a Freemason lodge, the much older and Spanish-related Scottish
Yorkist ( Scottish, Yorkist ) rite.
