The Cuban Missile Crisis was resolved as Khrushchev sent JFK two letters addressing the situation and negotiating details over the future of the missiles and of Cuba. Cuba was to remain independent and it would not hold Soviet missiles, however neither the USA or the USSR could directly invade Cuba again.
