At dismissal, 2:00pm/2:30pm/3:00pm, walk to the snack area to set-up snack.
When you get to the snack floor, check-in with other program leaders to find out what they have planned for the day.
As your students arrive- Don't do the following:
Mark the time of their arrival on the accountability sheet immediately.
Say "Hi" and welcome them today
Mark them on the attendance sign-In sheet right away by initialing and writing the time
Instruct them to have a seat.
Kids can be as loud as they want during snack time as long as they are outdoors, after all, it's their break time.
You perform an attention-getter, which is unsuccessful. Some students do not respond for various reasons. Do you...
Move on to the what you needed to communicate even though you don't have the attention of all the students.
Ignore the attention getter entirely and sit down with your class to eat your snack.
Change it up- Do one that everyone will respond to and give praises and consequences for those who don't
Giving students a clear direction as to when to throw-away their trash will
allow me an opportunity to praise those who are cleaning up
will allow me to supervise the clean-up procedures
avoid kids from crowding around the trash cans
All of the above
During Snack Time, kids can generally walk around to visit their friends, stretch out if they need, clean up when finished and get a better view at what's going on at the dismissal gate by standing up tall.
