Who was Lamarck?
Lamarck was a nineteenth century British naturalist. He voyaged the Galapagos Islands and developed a theory to explain how evolution might have occurred.
Lamarck was a French Naturalist who lived during the 18th century, he created the theory of acquired characteristics.
Lamarck was a French Naturalist who lived during the 18th century, he created the thoery on how evolution might have occurred.
Lamarck Theory of acquired characteristics attempted to explain how evolution might have occurred. This theory had two basic assumptions which were:
The Law of Use and Disuse.
The Law of inheritance and acquired characteristics.
The Law of acquired characteristics and natural selection.
The law of use and disuse states that part of an organisms body that are use frequently will not become as developed as parts which are used less or not at all. Those parts which are used will eventually disappear.
Lamarck had an idea, that organisms evolved. Was this new news?
No.
Yes.
Lamarck was one of the first to propose a mechanism or process by which evolution might occur.
What was Lamarck's flaw with his theory of acquired characteristics due to his lack of understanding ?
There was not enough physical proof supplied.
Not genetically based therefore it was not inheritable.
What is the role of the environment in Lamarck's theory?
Makes animals adapt to their environment.
What causes organisms to change.
The one trying to change.
What is the role of the organism in Lamarck's theory?
What causes organism to change.
Is evolution a slow or rapid process?
Slow
Rapid
do species remain over time time or do they change?
change
remain the same
Define Species
Trait which contributes to an organisms fitness in a given environment.
A group of actively interbreeding organisms of the same species that live in a given area.
A group of organisms that are able to interbreed in a natural environment.
Define Population
The degree to which an organism can successfully compete and pass its genes/traits on to the next generation.
Define Fitness
Define Adaptation
