Following this procedure, you should now think of the paperwork and stuff. So the first thing is to:
- the incident to a senior
- During office hours, contact . Outside office hours, contact the manager.
- It is important that is sought as soon as possible as treatment needs to be carried out ASAP
- A form should be completed for the recipient of the (IR1)
- You should ask the patient the questions for blood exposure and ideally gain a sample of both you and the patient
- Post-exposure may be required if patient is risk
- Ensure results are reported to and the (if university staff involved)
- Follow up is carried out by occupational health.
- Try and determine the cause of the needlestick and how practices can be improved to them
