AUDIENCE THEORIES
Hierarchy of Needs - Maslow
This theory has significant role in advertising and services, as the needs of the audiences are highlighted - and most assume we already have most of the needs developed already.
Our trailer would appeal to cognitive, aesthetic and becomingness and love (mainly the mainstream audience)
Cognitive = our trailer, being within the genre of thriller may meet the cognitive needs of our target audience. For example, being a part of advertising, it is natural that it immediately makes us question the advert. Such as do we need to see this film? is this film directed towards me? what does this mean? etc.
Aesthetic = we feel our trailer meets the needs of this because film (or thriller) fans will enjoy this and enjoy the conventions we possessed.
Becomingness and Loving = we feel our trailer meets this, more for the mainstream audience, as if they feel themselves enjoying this they may feel apart of the crowd.
In accordance to our poster and website, we wanted our audience to be in the negotiated or preferred dominant reading position. We feel our direct target audience will be within the preferred reading position, as they should understand the conventions. Our audience feedback showed they did do this and were able to understand all the connotations behind the conventions we developed. However, people are open to interpret things differently. Especially considering posters only show certain things with in the narrative - which is good, as audiences will want to find out what they things mean. For example, In our poster we have the image of "your stalker followed you" which doesn't give too much away about the narrative, yet it means that the antagonist is obsessed with the girl.
