How to answer questions on the text?
Characterization:
direct (explicit) and indirect (implicit) characterization
mark characteristics of the character told by other characters or by the character itself
What to take into consideration for a characterization:
character's name
relationship to other characters
role of the character in the story
prominent characteristics that play a role in the narrative
adjectives describing the character (learn more adjectives); is the character flat or round?
development of the character throughout the story (static/dynamic)
Narrative aspects/ techniques
third-person omniscient narrator
third-person limited narrator
first-person narrator
reliable vs unreliable narrator

the underlying message/ the big idea/ central topic
Style/ Stylistic devices:
style, tone, register: literary style in narrative texts: complex sentences, use of sylistic devices, combines different registers (formal, informal)

Writing a comment:
Read the task carefully, form your opinion (one side only)
Find arguments before writing
Write an interesting introduction and give your general opinion in it
Make one paragraph for each argument and support these by fitting examples
Form a concluding statement that sums up your arguments
Writing a discussion:
Make an outline for your discussion paper (structure)
Write an introduction, add the main body part: three arguments pro/ con each, support with examples

How to write a cartoon analysis?
Purpose of a cartoon:
presents opinions about

criticizes
... a situation, a person, an event
Stages of a cartoon:
) Description: what can you see? what is the caption?
) Analysis: interpret the message: what is the topic? how are things presented? the intention of the cartoon?
) Personal statement: do you (not) like it? is the cartoon effective in sending out its message
