- He was appointed Chancellor in March 1930, von Schleicher advised Hindenburg. - Financial Expert and member of the Centre Party. - He banned the SA due to the increase of political violence April 1932- RESIGNED MAY 1932- WHY DID HE RESIGN?+ because he failed to solve the impact of the Great Depression and his austerity programme had made it worse for Germany.(CENTRE PARTY GETTING ONLY 68 SEATS AND NSDAP GETTING 107)+ Hindenburg lost faith on him .

SEPT 1930 - REICHSTAG ELECTIONS- DONE UNDER BRUNING'S GOVT WHERE HE SOUGHT TO GET THE MAJORITY VOTE + MORE SUPPORT IN THE REICHSTAG(NSDAP GOT 107 SEATS IN THE REICHSTAG BUT ONLY HAD 10.6% AS THE VOTE COMPARED TO THE KPD WHO HAD 13.1% OF THE VOTE.)
MARCH - APRIL 1932 - PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS- HINDENBURG RAN FOR PRESIDENT AND SO DID HITLER. HINDENBURG WON THIS WITH MAJORITY VOTE - 53% HITLER COMING SECOND WITH 37%

Instead he had elites or 'barons' in his government.- JUNE 1932: Papen lifted the ban imposed by Bruning on the SA. - JULY 1932: Hitler persuaded Papen to hold another general election. Hindenburg agreed.- AUGUST 1932: NAZIS WON 37% OF THE VOTE. HITLER DEMANDED TO BE MADE CHANCELLOR. * Papen has been negotiating with Hitler about forming a coalition government with him. Hugenburg approved and supported of a Nazi-led coalition.
