Elementary Particles of Matter: Three main parts make up the basic structure of the atom Neutrons: Exist in the nucleus, have a relative mass of 1 amu, has no charge Protons: Exist in the nucleus, have a relative mass of 1 amu, has a + charge Electrons: Exist in the electron shells surrounding the nucleus, has a relative mass of 0 amu, has a - charge

Coulomb's Law: Forces between charged particles is know as the electrostatic force. Particles with similar charges repel, while particles with opposite charges attract to each other. These forces can be mathematically found using Coulomb's Law. F=(k*q1q2)/r^2, where k is Coulomb's constant, q is the magnitude of the charge, and r is the radies between the particles Inversely proportional to the radius squared and proportional to the magnitude of the charge
