Character Analysis:Eddie Carbone: his weakness is his obsession with Catherine. he is a tragic protagonist . he only cares about himself, if he cared about her he would let her go and not keep her in a cage like a bird. he believes that he must protect her from marriage, or any male relationships (Rodolfo)he is overprotected of Catherine. when Catherine lights Eddie's cigar in the living room, it is an event that gives Eddie unusual pleasure. the first person to see this , is Beatrice when she has her conversation with Catherine. Eddie's great attention to his attractive niece and impotence in his own marital relationship immediately makes this meaning clear. Eddie does not realize his feeling for Catherine because he has constructed an imagined world where he can suppress his urges. Alfieri also realizes Eddie's feelings towards Catherine, during his first conversation Alfieri: he is an Italian American he is the symbolic bridge between American law and tribal laws. he is true to his ethnic identity he is a well educated man who studies and respects American law. he informs us what is going on In the story. Rodolpho: he is the platinum blonde is a cooking, sewing and dancing full- blooded Italian, and the greatest threat to Eddie Carbone. the plays doesn't really say anything about Rodolpho until, Beatrice and Catherine have a conversation about him. there are many questions yet unanswered: his sexuality his love for Catherine and whether he actually forgives Eddie. unlike Marco, Rodolpho doesn't seek revenge on Eddie for calling immigration or abusing his fiancé in front of him.
