What is a Surd? A square root which cannot be reduced to a whole number.

Rules for Surds √a + √a = a √ab = √a + √b 4√6 - 2√6 = 2√6 2√5 - 2√3 does not subtract because root is different! 2 surds can be multipled together: √15 * √2 = √30 √15 * 2 = 2√15

Rationalising a Fraction Multiply the top and bottom by the bottom surd.TRY √8 / √6
