TIPS for Success:Manage your time carefullyYou need to skim and scan the information · Revise the punctuation of direct speech· Always remember that reported speech can be introduced by ‘that’ which replaces the speech marks.

Direct Speech Mrs Hood called, “Red! I’d like you to take these freshly baked cakes to Granny. She’s not feeling very well and I think a visit from you would cheer her up.” “Can I walk instead of taking the bus?” asked her daughter. “It’s such a nice day.” “If you want to. But I don’t want you taking the short-cut through the Forest Estate. And remember,” her mother warned, “no talking to strangers.” “I’ll be back before Daddy gets home. Bye!”

She thought that a visit from Red would cheer her up. Red asked if she could walk instead of taking the bus as it was such a nice day. Red promised that she would be back before her father returned home.
