When a minor scale is harmonic, you must sharpen the seventh note. All notes in the harmonic scale remain the same, ascending and descending. In a melodic scale, the ascending form sharpens the 6th and 7th note; however the descending form neutralizes the sharpened notes (that would usually be sharpened descending and ascending in a harmonic scale). Examples of corresponding key signatures for major and minor keys have already been noted. There is a fixed relationship: the key-note of a minor key is always the same as the 6th degree of the major scale with the same key signature. For example, C major holds the same number of sharp and flat notes, therefore they are relative scales. (Sharing the same segment on the circle of fifths).
